How to Use the Potion Brewing Guide
This interactive tool covers every brewable potion in Minecraft Java Edition 1.21+. Use the search bar to filter by potion name, effect, or ingredient. Select a category to narrow results to positive, negative, or base potions. Click any potion card to see full details including the exact brewing chain from water bottle to finished product.
Understanding Brewing Chains
Every potion in Minecraft starts with a Water Bottle. Most useful potions require brewing an Awkward Potion first by adding Nether Wart. From there, you add a specific ingredient to create the desired effect. Some potions chain further: for example, a Potion of Night Vision can be corrupted with a Fermented Spider Eye to create a Potion of Invisibility. The detail view shows these chains visually so you can plan your ingredients before heading to the brewing stand.
Potion Variants and Modifications
Most potions can be modified in several ways. Adding Redstone Dust extends the duration of a potion. Adding Glowstone Dust enhances the potency but usually shortens the duration. Adding Gunpowder to any potion creates a Splash Potion that can be thrown. Adding Dragon's Breath to a Splash Potion creates a Lingering Potion that leaves an area of effect cloud. This guide shows all available variants for each potion, including the modified duration and effect level.
Common Use Cases
Players use this tool to prepare for boss fights by checking which potions to brew and what ingredients to gather. It helps when setting up automatic brewing systems by providing the exact recipe order. Server administrators reference the potion IDs for custom shop plugins and command blocks. The give command output lets you instantly obtain any potion in creative mode or through a command block for testing and map-making.
